MOORLAND School has announced a prestigious development link with Manchester City as the 2012 Premier League champions search for the next Joe Hart or Sergio Aguero in the Ribble Valley.

Moorland have forged a reputation for nurturing young talent, with former Manchester United striker John Cofie joining Burnley from the Clitheroe school, before the tall Ghanian’s switch to Old Trafford several years ago.

Now Etihad Stadium talent scouts are casting their net further into the county – with Clitheroe-based Moorland School the base for Blues’ HQ.

“There’s tremendous competition for the best talent from Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Preston and Wigan, but Manchester City is a world brand now and they are looking to attract the finest youngsters,” said Moorland School’s director of football Charlie Jackson.

“We’ve already had one player who has signed for Manchester City and is featuring in the under-nine group.

“Mainly, the youngsters are 6,7 and 8 years old, and they get the opportunity develop their skills in an elite academy, and then have the chance to progress to one of the biggest clubs in the world if they are good enough.

“For Moorland School to have Manchester City’s Development Centre in the Ribble Valley is massive.”

Jackson’s coaching methods at Moorland School were the subject of a feature in a national newspaper, and his methods continue to attract nationwide attention.

Jackson previously enjoyed a successful coaching stint with Blackburn Rovers, before linking up with Manchester City as their Development Centre chief at Moorland.
