IT has been a memorable few weeks for Pendle Vale College's boccia team with one player setting his sights on competing in the Rio Paralympics.
Hot on the heels of the school winning the North West Boccia Championships, talented team member Jakub Drozdzowski has been selected to have trials for the GB Boccia squad.
If successful, the Year 11 student could find himself heading for Brazil in 2016.
Jakub was part of the Pendle Vale team that blew away their rivals to win the North West title.
He was joined by Rakeeb Sultan, Kashaf Imran who stormed to glory to book a place in the national finals.
Pendle Vale won all of their games – even coming back from 5-0 down in one enthralling encounter.
Last year, the team were at the same stage of the competition but unfortunately lost.
However, under the watchful eye of coach Oliver Hughes the team has excelled under his guidance.
A 10-4 win set the team up against Wirral South in the final.
And it turned out to be a one-sided encounter with Pendle Vale running out 14-2 winners to book a place in the national finals to be held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on March 6 which sees the top 12 teams in the country battle it out for the national title.
"The lads are certainly on a high and are really excited and looking forward to carrying on their success and hopefully bring the trophy back to Lancashire and their school,” said coach Hughes.
As well as playing his part in the team success, Jakub's talents have been recognised on an individual level.
For while he has been selected GB trials, he has also qualified for the individual Boccia National Championships which will be held in Worcester.
Jakub is currently looking to raise funds to buy new equipment.
If anyone is interested in donating some money or sponsoring Jakub, please contact Pendle Vale College on 01282 682240 and ask for Oliver Hughes.
