THE win over Millwall created yet another historic moment for Burnley Football Club.
Nineteen league games unbeaten at Turf Moor, and at the heart of it the inspirational Danny Ings notching another two goals certainly warmed the hearts of the fans on a very cold Saturday afternoon.
The goalkeeper made a great save to deny Danny his hat-trick – that’s what I said when I missed a penalty once.
Charlie Austin is the last Claret to score a hat-trick, when Sheffield Wednesday came back from behind to draw 3-3. Danny has been close several times, but his moment will come.
The strikers get all the headlines for scoring goals, so I will praise Kieran Trippier for his incessant contribution to the front two.
I’m so pleased no-one came in during the January transfer window to snatch him away from us, or anyone for that matter.
For consistency of performance and selection has been a big factor this season.
The team performance was tremendous after going behind to Millwall.
I don’t believe there are any easy games in the Championship, you have to go out there to win them and take them each game at a time – like Harry Potts used to tell us – so it was great to see such determination from the whole team.
The Clarets have had fantastic support on the road, and they will be hopeful of that again at the weekend, despite the long trip to Bournemouth.
It’s a big day for both Sam Vokes and Danny as they return to play at their first club for the first time.
I moved around a bit after leaving Burnley, but it was always the first result I looked for and I’m sure the Cherries are just as close to the duo’s hearts.
I hope they get a good reception, and at least a goal each to mark the occasion.
