BLACKBURN Combination title favourites Blackburn United eased themselves six points clear at the summit with a routine 3-1 win over strugglers Greenfield.
United, beaten just once in the Premier League this term, also boast a couple of games in hand on second-placed Wellington Inn, who cruised to victory over Hole I’Th Wall by the same scoreline.
Rishton United could still have a significant say in the championship race, though, after they thrashed second-bottom Blackburn Olympic 6-0.
Crucially, Rishton have played five games less than Wellington and three fewer than the long-time leaders.
The fixture between Vauxhall Inn and Islington was called off, but Clifton and Anchor shared an eleven goal thriller, Clifton edging out the visitors 6-5.
Just one game went ahead in the Second Division, and it proved a significant one as IMO climbed into third place, crushing Whalley Range 6-1.
In the Cotton Cup Group Stage there was an easy win for The Ivy Veterans, beating Rishton United Reserves 5-0, while The Lion clawed their way to a 2-1 victory at Blackburn United Reserves.
Officials will be hoping for a full league programme at the weekend.
