Widnes Vikings 0 Nelson 6
BIG-scoring Nelson moved a step closer to promotion and nearer to a century of league goals as they thumped six past Widnes Vikings.
The Admirals scored six or more goals for the seventh time this season as they moved seven points clear of nearest rivals Formby at the top of NWCL Division One.
They have now netted 91 league goals in 26 games this season.
From the moment Robert Grimes put Nelson ahead in the sixth minute – and an own goal five minutes later – there was only going to be one winner.
Nelson, who have hit eight past Oldham Borough and Daisy Hill this term, grabbed a third two minutes after the restart through Adnan Ahmed.
But the gloss was put on the victory with three goals in the closing 12 minutes.
Leading scorer Peter Wright netted his 22nd of the campaign before Grimes scored his second of the match and 16th of the season six minutes from time.
Danny Mahoney made it 6-0 in the last minute.
