EAST Lancashire cycling star Steven Burke has been named in the Great Britain squad for the Track Cycling World Championships in Colombia later this month.
The 25-year-old Colne ace, who won gold in the team pursuit at the London Olympics, is once again expected to feature in that event.
He is joined in the squad by Ed Clancy, Jon Dibben, Owain Doull and Sam Harrison but there was no place for Andy Tennant.
The championships take place in Cali from February 26-March 2 and are seen by Team GB as an important marker on the road to Rio in two years time.
British Cycling performance director Sir Dave Brailsford said: “I’m pleased with the results we’ve had at World Cup level this season, both from the established riders and the younger ones breaking through, and I think we can go into the World Championships with confidence this year.
”With qualification for Rio 2016 expected to begin this year, this World Championships will allow us to lay down a marker to see where we are at against the best in the world and assess what work needs to be done.”
