Glossop North End 2 Bacup and Rossendale Boro 0
Bacup and Rossendale Borough couldn’t find the quality to break down a solid Glossop North End side who in the end punished them.
After not having a game in almost a month because of the weather it was always going to be tough to keep the momentum going. However the best teams can adapt.
The Glossop pitch passed an early morning pitch inspection but was still cut up badly in certain areas plus with gale force wind it would be even more difficult.
The home side certainly dominated the opening stages and they came close after 10 minutes when centre back Lincoln Adams rose highest and powerfully headed just wide.
Bacup could only hold out for so long and this was the case as Glossop took the lead in the 22nd minute.
A corner was floated in and when Bacup goalkeeper Matthew Green went up and was challenged he fumbled the ball and Dave Young was on hand to scramble it over the line.
Bacup have a habit of conceding goals just after half-time and this happened again much to the annoyance of the away bench.
A misjudgement from Shane Birtles allowed Sam Hare to race through on goal and simply roll the ball home.
Bacup improved when Brent Peters (above) introduced Marcus Calvert, who has been injured since October, and Paul Socha. And it was Socha who went closest to halving the arrears but blazed over from the edge of the area.
Bacup were reduced to 10 men in the closing stages when Matty Bryan was sent off but Hare missed the chance to score his second of the match when he fired the resultant penalty kick wide of the target.
