BACUP manager Brent Peters has applied for the vacant managerial position at League Two side Rochdale.

Peters threw his hat into the ring this week and revealed he was quietly confident he could turn the struggling side around.

Brian Horton and Andy Ritchie are favourites for the job, while Ian Atkins and Kevin Reeves are also names in the frame to replace Steve Parkin, who left the club by mutual consent on Sunday.

Youth coach and former Blackburn Rovers player Keith Hill is also a possibility.

But Peters believes he is the best man for the job.

He said: "A job like Rochdale would certainly interest me and, if Rochdale want to interview me for the position of manager, then I would love that.

"As far as I'm concerned, my CV is on the table of their chairman."

Peters, who has previously had spells in charge of Doncaster and Bury, has been at the helm at West View for almost nine seasons, guiding Borough to the North West Counties Division Two title - their first trophy in 54 years, and winning the League Challenge Cup in 2004/05.

And he hoped his experience in dealing with several star players, including David May and Carlo Nash, as well as being able to operate on a tight budget, would stand him in good stead.

He added: "I can attract Rolls Royce players for Mini Minor money.

"Personally I would say there's nobody better at that than me.

"If you take a player like David May, he's worked with two of the best managers in Britain in Kenny Dalglish and Sir Alex Ferguson.

"But if you ask him about elite managers he's worked with, then I'm sure Brent Peters will be a name he'll mention.

"Names are being banded about as front runners, but that doesn't mean to say they've got more experience or are better managers than Brent Peters.

"Sometimes going for big names doesn't always turn out to be the best choice.

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating."
