Carnforth 2nds 17 Burnley 3rds 26
A MUCH-changed Burnley Thirds side underlined their team spirit with a fine win as they condemned Carnforth to their first home defeat of the season. From the kick off Burnley took the game to the home side and some good interplay between Jackson Linford and Ash Nutall sent Matt Fisher down the wing to score the first try.
It was the same combination that set up Fisher for his second try to put Burnley firmly in the lead.
Burnley’s set piece was functioning well with the runners making inroads into the defence – and some excellent work around the park sent Ben Williamson in for a well deserved try. But Carnforth fought back with a try of their own to trail 19-5 at the break.
The hosts got back in to the game after the break and ran in two quick tries. Burnley dug deep and Martin Jackson and Craig Hardy put in some strong runs to allow Steve Harrison to out pace the defence and seal the game for Burnley.
