De La Salle 17 Burnley 8
AFTER impressive wins on their last two outings Burnley made the tough trip to top of the table De La Salle – a team who had yet to lose a game all season.
And while the Salford club made it seven wins out of seven, they were pushed all the way by a rejuvenated Burnley outfit.
The Holden Road side showed real power up front, not giving a backward step and, in the backs, showed glimpses of what can be achieved with new players still settling in.
Matt Crowley gave Burnley the lead with a penalty but the host hit back immediately with a try from the restart.
Burnley were counter rucking well and dominating the scrum but De la Salle scored again to lead 10-3 at the break.
A third converted try made it 17-3 but Burnley never gave up. The hosts, under pressure, were reduced to 13 men for sin-bin offences. Burnley took advantage, sucked defenders in and then spread the ball wide and from then a resulting maul, Simon Finnan scored a well deserved try for Burnley.
