BLACKBURN Hawks will look to continue where they left off when they head to Sutton Sting (4.15pm) tomorrow for the first game in a weekend double-header.

Hawks romped to a 16-1 victory over NIHL Moralee Conference whipping boys Telford Titans last Sunday to end a morale-sapping five-game winless run.

And Jared Owen wants more of the same in the NLN Cup clash with a Sting side who won last month’s league encounter between the teams 6-3.

Hawks player-coach Owen said: “It’s not that we haven’t been playing well – the performances haven’t been that bad.

“It’s just that we hadn’t been finishing our chances.

“So it was great to be back in the goals against Telford.

“Now we’ve got to carry that on into the two games we’ve got this weekend.

“We are still very much in the cup and we’ll going to Sutton to get a result.

“They beat us a couple of weeks ago but had we been able to put the puck away when we were 2-1 up then we would have probably gone to win the game.

“We didn’t and they punished us.”

Hawks are back in league action on Sunday when they welcome Manchester Minotaurs to the Blackburn Arena (5.45pm).

Hawks opened their campaign with a 4-2 win over the Minotaurs at the Silver Blades Ice Rink.

But Owen is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “We know what to expect. They have had a decent start and they have a very good forward who scores a lot of goals.

“He’s their dangerman and while we have to play our normal game we will have to nullify him.”

Elite League starlet Scott Robson – who plays for Hull Stingrays in the top flight alongside playing for the Hawks – will be available for selection this weekend.

Owen, however, may miss out again.

The Hawks boss has a back injury, meaning he had to sit out last Sunday’s clash with his former club Telford.

Owen admits he is not a great watcher and that he would prefer to be out on the ice.

But he admitted he found watching the Titans tie from the bench beneficial as it enabled him to pick up areas for improvement he might have missed had he been in the thick of the action.

Owen added: “If I have to watch again from the stands this weekend then it will be no problem.”

Meanwhile, Blackburn Eagles are without a match this weekend in division two north.
