A 9th minute headed goal by Mitchell Clegg secured the points for the home side and punished Padiham for a sluggish start and a host of missed chances.
Paul Paynter's header hit the crossbar on 15 minutes and Paul Barrett missed two open goals before the break.
In the second half, Padiham had lots of possession but not the cutting edge to get back into the game.
