CUP fighters Ramsbottom United could have to don their Sunday best when they tackle Conference North nomads Worcester City in the next round of the FA Trophy.

Worcester’s home for a century, St George's Lane, faces demolition, so they are currently ground-sharing with Kidderminster Harriers – 40 miles away.

But with Kidderminster pencilled in to play Wrexham in a league game – the same day the Rams are due to meet Worcester in their third qualifying round – November 16 – a new date could have to be hammered out.

Ramsbottom’s joint-manager, Bernard Morley, who helped engineer last weekend’s shock 1-0 Trophy win at Blyth Spartans, said: “The tie could be played on Sunday or on the Friday evening – we are waiting to hear what is going to happen.

“We are determined, though, not to let this shift our focus from an incredible win at Blyth, a club who are in the top 10 of the league above us.

“The coach broke down on the way up to Blyth and we didn’t arrive until an hour before kick-off, but we still dug deep to win the tie.

“It was a wonderful performance and it not a big issue what day we play Worcester – the lads can go and do it again.”

Morley and joint-manager Anthony Johnson have been busy adding to their squad, who are unbeaten in their last eight league and cup starts ahead of tonight’s tough assignment against Darlington 1883.

The latest addition was Kelvin Lomax, the brother of Burnley star Kieran Trippier, and Lomax will be sure to play a vital role as Rammy aim to score a league double over their north east hosts.

Ramsbottom defeated Darlington 3-0 earlier in the campaign, sparking their run of impressive form and Morley added: “Darlington couldn’t cope with us that day, so they’ll be hungry for revenge.

“There will be a big crowd on, they are pulling in a thousand plus for their home games, so if we come back with anything from Darlington it will be a great performance."”

Ramsbottom’s continuing cup success means they have played just a dozen league games and Morley admits that is a growing concern as the fixtures pile up.

After tonight’s game, Rammy face New Mills on Saturday before they meet FC United in the Doodson Cup – four days before they are due to meet Worcester.

“Some teams have played four of five games more, but we have to deal with it,” he added.

“The FA Trophy is proving an incredible journey for us, but it is vital that we keep the pot boiling in the league too."
