Former singles champion Amedeo D’Ippollito is into the last 64 of this year's competition after coming through the Blackburn with Darwen Snooker League competition’s qualifiers.

The Feniscowles potter faced a testing trip down Livesey Branch Road to face Mill Hill’s Eamon Bufton on the latter’s home table.

The undoubted tie of the qualifying round had been billed as the Battle of the Bash as two of the league’s big hitters went off toe to toe for a place in the first round proper.

Most observers were expecting a close run tie that could have gone either way but Doppollito made light work of the challenge of bis big rival and eased to a relatively straightforward 2-0 win.

The deadline for ties to be played is Sunday.

That is also the closing date for the Ben Dickinson Memorial Pairs competition before the first round breaks off into action.

Gaz Hampson and his partner Stu Pendlebury are already through to the second round as their opponents have been scratched following the closure of the Kings Inn.

That news last month meant a change in league structure and Park B stayed in Division One with Hole I’th Wall playing in Division Two when it appeared they may not have a team at all this season.
