THE only games to beat the weather this weekend were the Lancashire Sunday Trophy games – and there were mixed fortunes for Blackburn Sunday Football League teams.

While Bee Hive and Mill Hill both progressed in to the last 16, AMT Lawyers and Crown Paints both put up terrific performances before bowing out of this season’s competition.

AMT Lawyers bowed out after a real gallant performance against a very good Acregate Labour Club team from Preston, the visitors went in at half time 2-1 up with Junaid scoring for the hosts.

The second half was a very even affair but the Blackburn side went further behind when referee Dave Mason who had an excellent game awarded a hotly disputed corner in the 75th minute; The Lawyers defence failed to deal with a ball over to the far post and a simple header put the visitors 3-1 ahead.

Junaid pulled one back before centre forward Siddique Patel scored a late equaliser – then went in in goal for the penalty shoot-out.

He saved the first spot kick but could not prevent the Lawyers from losing 10-9 in the shootout.

Bee Hive travelled to play BAC Continentals from the Preston Sunday League First Division and came away with a very good 2-0 victory – a goal from the penalty spot midway through the first half scored by Kyle Cotton put Mark Roberts side 1-0 up at half time.

Bee Hive added a second in 60th minute when a Joe Ginley rocket from 35 yards doubled the advantage.

Mill Hill also had a trip to Preston playing high-flying Plungington Celtic in a difficult cup tie.

Celtic opened strongly and the visitors struggled to get into the game, but on 15 minutes and somewhat against the run of play, Mill Hill came out on the break to go ahead with a Liam Fryer goal.

The visitors then started to get in their stride and were quite happy to hit the host side on the break and on 65 minutes increased their lead when Carl Mercer released a real rocket shot from 20 yards, the home side tried to break down the Blackburn team but in truth never looked like breaking down a strong Mill Hill rearguard.

Crown Paints came up against last season’s winners and held out at 1-0 down until 12 minutes from time; but a late collapse saw the below par visitors gain a flattering 6-0 win.
