Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage has expressed his delight at the club's exploits in the UEFA Cup this season.

But the former Welsh international, who has played in the competition with Leicester City, denied that the competition had been detrimental to their league form.

He said: "We are enjoying it. It is the first time I have been this far in the UEFA Cup and it is a great new experience for most of us at the club.

"It is nice to be involved in the competition.

"Whoever you play now, it is going to be difficult.

"It is a knockout stage and to have made that - you can't beat that.

"The UEFA Cup games can be an inspiration to get back there, but first and foremost we need to get to 38 or 40 points.

"Then we can maybe look up."
