BLACKBURN Hawks player-coach Jared Owen insists his side’s spirit has not been damaged by their four-match losing run.

Hawks have not won since September 29 and the double-header defeat to Sutton Sting and Billingham Stars last weekend left them fifth and five points off top spot in the NIHL Moralee Conference.

But ahead of this Sunday’s visit of basement boys Telford Titans to the Blackburn Arena (5.45pm), Owen is confident last season’s play-off winners will bounce back.

He said: “We are having no luck in front of goal.

“We were 2-1 up in the second period against Sutton on Saturday and we hit the post three times.

“If one of those had gone in, we would have gone 3-1 up and most probably gone on to win the game.

“We’re certainly creating chances, it’s just the bounce is not going our way.

“I am confident we will get it right.

“The spirit is good and we should have more bodies back for this weekend.”

Captain Chris Arnone will be back for the Titans clash after serving a two-match suspension incurred for comments he made on Twitter.

Sam Dunford should also return, while Owen hopes starlet Scott Robson – recently signed on a two-way deal with Elite League outfit Hull Stingrays – will be available for selection.

Hawks will be hot favourites to return to winning ways against a Titans team that have lost all eight of their league games so far this season.

But Owen (pictured left) will not be underestimating his former club.

He said: “It will be a difficult test. Telford will come here with a game plan to clog up the ice and for the full 60 minutes they will work hard. We will need to be switched on.

“But we are not playing badly.

“We just need to start putting the puck away.

“There is no need to be down.

“A lot of teams in the league have lost two or three games and we’re not that far behind.

“Apart from the blowout against Sutton we have been very strong defensively and we have created chances.

“We just need to start taking them now and, if we do, the confidence will come back.”

Blackburn Eagles are at home to Hull Stingrays in the NIHL Laidler Conference tomorrow (5.45pm).
