FIG Roll can atone for a no-show at Ascot in July by claiming a second Listed success at Newmarket.

Richard Hannon’s young filly has not been seen since her disappointing reverse in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes, in which she hung badly right and beat just one horse home.

Although something may have gone amiss that day, it is nonetheless reassuring to see her return to action.

Fig Roll is the highest-rated horse in the line-up on account of really good placed efforts in hot races like the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

She also showed a particularly nice demeanour when a three-quarters-of-a-length winner of the Empress Stakes on the July course.

Perhaps one of the key attributes in the daughter Bahamian Bounty’s constitution is her toughness, which could come in very handy if the ground is on the soft side of good.

Fig Roll would prefer a sounder surface, but she is the class act in this field and, assuming her Ascot trespasses are now behind her, must go very close back at this grade.

Hannon could again be on the Newmarket scoresheet when Expert takes the plunge in the Express Cafes Conditions Stakes.

The Herridge handler has won this race three times in six years and appears to have another contender.

The grey son of Mastercraftsman was all at sea in a Salisbury bog earlier this month, but his close-up third in a top-notch conditions stakes at Doncaster before that commands respect.

Lightning Thunder, the winner on Town Moor, has since held her own in big Group races, while runner-up Justice Day finished third in the Middle Park Stakes.

Expert is especially well suited by the conditions of this race and is usually a pretty trustworthy individual when there is a little cut in the ground.

Let Me In can be considered a major player for the Handicap at Wolverhampton.

The Pat Chamings-trained three-year-old was sent off the 5-4 favourite on his last start over course and distance two weeks ago, but was given too much to do and flashed home for fifth spot.

He was, however, only beaten two lengths on that occasion and might have got even closer to the winner had he not suffered trouble in running two furlongs from home.
