BLACKBURN Rovers have accepted a Football Association charge of failing to control their players in the fiery Lancashire derby with Blackpool.

Rovers and the Seasiders were charged by the FA yesterday morning for the 21-man brawl that marred last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road. Both clubs were given until 6pm on Monday to respond.

But Rovers boss Gary Bowyer (pictured left) has already confirmed his side will not contest the charge.

He has also dismissed the suggestion that they have a discipline problem. Striker DJ Campbell was sent off following the melee.

In doing so he became the second Rovers player to be dismissed in three games after Grant Hanley was red carded for lashing out at Nick Powell at Wigan Athletic.

Bowyer said: “We have accepted the charge and we move on – it’s as simple as that for us.

“We’ve lost DJ for three games and that is a blow for us.

“We’ve spoke about the importance of keeping our discipline and not having sending offs but it is part and parcel of the game.

“If you look at it another way – is passion being displayed there? Sometimes it’s up to us to learn to control it.”

Campbell will be banned for three matches – starting with tomorrow’s visit of managerless Middlesbrough to Ewood Park (3pm).

Bowyer still stands by his initial assessment that it was the reaction of the Blackpool players to a committed challenge by Campbell on their goalkeeper Matthew Gilks that sparked the brawl.

But he admits he could not condone what happened next as Campbell and Seasiders defender Jack Robinson saw red for fighting.

Campbell’s suspension means Bowyer is down to just two fully-fit forwards – Jordan Rhodes and Leon Best.

He is continuing the scour the market for an on-loan front man.

Bowyer said: “I heard somebody on the radio this morning about how difficult it is to convince some people to come and play in the Championship.

“We’ll just continue that but I’ve said all along that they have to be right type coming in.

“They have to be similar to Todd Kane and Tom Cairney who we’ve brought in.

“You have to be careful with loan players.

“The market is flooded with loan players but they have to be someone who will get an attachment with the club and help the cause.”

The 10-goal Rhodes will definitely start against managerless Middlesbrough tomorrow.

The Championship’s leading marksman is likely to be marked by new Boro captain and former Real Madrid and England centre-back Jonathan Woodgate.

Bowyer said: “It will be a great test.

“Jonathan Woodgate has played against some top strikers in his time and I’m sure he’ll be aware of the threat that Jordan poses.”
