Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has claimed they get a fairer deal from referees in Europe than they do at home.
Hughes believes Premier League officials historically perceive his team as being over-committed.
Angered by a number of decisions this season that have gone against his side, he voiced his concern to referees supremo Keith Hackett.
Blackburn return to domestic action at Reading tomorrow after their UEFA Cup victory against French side Nancy in midweek.
Hughes said: "The level of performance of the European referees has been very high.
"I had a discussion with Keith Hackett and made the point that maybe pre-conceived ideas of how we go about our business had hurt us.
"I know he agreed with that. Maybe it is something that is sub-consciously there.
"But when we play in Europe it is not an issue. We are refereed on our own merits.
"A referee gives a decision on what he sees.
"European referees have possibly been better for us this year than Premier League referees."
