TODAY should have been the first day of Haydock Park’s jumps season but the meeting has been transferred to sister-track Carlisle and it is hard to see past Azza (1.10) in the opener for David Pipe and Tom Scudamore.

The juvenile won a listed hurdle at Auteuil back in September and has subsequently changed hands and joined the Pipe stable. She carries a 7lb penalty for that success but sets the standard and should follow up.

It’s pleasing to see Terfel’s Toscar (1.40) drop back in trip to 2m 4f and he just gets the nod although any further significant rain would be a concern for Tim Vaughan’s 8-y-old who is an excellent jumper.

The Nephew goes the other way up to 2m 4f from the minimum distance for Jonjo O’Neill having been too far out of his ground at Chepstow last time.

Chris Bealby’s Chac Du Cadran is one to look out for this season but the yard have been slow coming to hand and he looks likely to need the run and preference is for Incentivise (2.40) who won first time out last season. This looks a weak contest and he can reward each way support.

No surprise to see Definite Dream (3.50) run over the minimum trip on his chase debut as he often raced keenly over hurdles and failed to get home over further.

A winner of a bumper in Ireland where he had failed to get home in his point to points he is likely to give Paul Maloney a few anxious moments but he will have the Plumpton winner Next Sensation to chase and he could go well at a big price.

The latter looks the one to beat carrying a penalty but he is sure to be very skinny in the betting and might be worth opposing.

Ruby Walsh takes the ride on Morning Assembly (3.10) in the 2m 4f Beginners Chase at Punchestown and he just gets the nod over Our Vinnie and Corbally Ghost – who unseated Paul Townend at the fourth at Galway on Monday but is die to run again only 48-hours later.

The selection was a grade 1 winning hurdler but always looked as if he would make into a top class chaser. Ruby Walsh takes over for the first time in what is, arguably, the best novice chase of the season so far in Britain or Ireland.

A clear round is surely the primary objective for Corbally Castle who pinged the first three before departing leaving the way clear for Don Cossack who was, visually, very impressive at Galway.

The beautifully bred fillies Desert Skies and Enfijaar (5.40) can fight out the finish of the 7f maiden at Kempton with preference for the latter.

Never To Be ran away with a nursery over C&D last time and a 6lb penalty might not be enough to prevent him following up but he is sure to be bet accordingly and Dream And Search (6.40) showed enough on his second start at Haydock that he would win races and he can make a winning handicap debut.
