BURNLEY exited the Capital One Cup in controversial circumstances against Premier League West Ham United.
Two penalties in the final 15 minutes of this fourth round tie condemned the Clarets to only their second defeat this season, ending an eight-game winning run.
The first was a mistake by referee Robert Madley, however, as Burnley captain Jason Shackell clearly won the ball in a challenge with the West Ham substitute Kevin Nolan.
Keith Treacy was at fault for the second in stoppage time, and sent off after bringing down Jack Collison when both Kieran Trippier and goalkeeper Tom Heaton slipped in the build-up.
Collison converted from the spot to fire West Ham into the quarter finals.
But at the final whistle Burnley boss Sean Dyche was still fuming at the first decision, which ultimately cost the Championship-leading Clarets their shot at reaching the last eight.
