TOP scorer Danny Ings says there is no reason why Burnley’s winning run should end, after cementing the Clarets’ place at the top of the table with a brace to beat Queens Park Rangers.

Ings hit his 12th and 13th goals of the season to make it eight successive victories for Burnley – seven in the league – to match their best ever start to a season.

Their latest win opened up a three-point gap at the top, and knocked promotion favourites QPR down to third, with Leicester City leap-frogging Harry Redknapp’s side into second spot.

And Ings says there is no reason why the Clarets cannot keep their formidable form in tact.

“It’s definitely possible. We’re going out there and running over teams,” said the striker.

“We’re fitter than most teams that we come up against and our ability is showing that as well.

“You’ve got to look at consistency. We’ve won eight on the bounce and it just shows it’s not a lack of form.

“We’re fit, we’ve got the ability on the pitch, people will say our only problem is the depth of our squad but I’m sure if we keep all the lads fit then we’ve got every chance.”

Ings bagged his third brace of the season, but gave credit to a team effort in maintaining their place at the league summit, with an eigth clean sheet in all competitions stopping ex-Claret Charlie Austin’s scoring streak.

“I’ve spoken a few times about the lads now and they were absolutely fantastic from back to front again,” he said.

“Obviously it was good to get a brace for myself but I don’t think the back four have got enough credit for keeping Charlie quiet.

“He didn’t get a sniff but you know Charlie’s one of those players where he might not get a sniff all game and then a cross comes into the box and he’ll attack it.

“But we were tight at the back and it didn’t happen.”

He added: “I thought we battered them in all fairness. I don’t like saying that word but I think we did because we got in their faces, we didn’t give them time on the ball and it worked.

“Last year we had a couple of times when we got the first goal and we’d sit it in and try to defend more but now we’re just going and going and trying to get more goals.

“It’s working and we’re winning games quite convincingly.”

Of his personal contribution, match-winner Ings said: “Scoring a brace against anyone for me gives me confidence, just scoring goals and hitting the net. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing against you’ve still got to score goals.

“But obviously in such a big game it was good to come out on top and get a brace.”
