I am sure I’m not alone in having to pinch myself every time I look at the Championship table.

I honestly didn’t expect the kind of performance we saw against promotion favourites QPR on Saturday and I certainly didn’t expect the table to look quite as good as it does post-match.

But then I guess we should start believing that anything is possible after the showing at the weekend.

Let’s not beat around the bush. We were better in all areas of the park than Harry Redknapp’s more illustrious side. I have written many times already this season how impressed I am with the work ethic that Sean Dyche has brought to the side this season but on Saturday those lads performed at a notch higher than anything we have seen all term.

From the first minute to the last we harried and chased and didn’t give QPR a moment’s rest.

Redknapp’s side were poor, but we made them look poor with some outstanding work on and off the ball.

I lost count of the number of times a simple pass was misplaced or over hit by those in blue and white hoops.

Former Claret Charlie Austin was given a nice welcome back to Turf Moor but the pre-match applause aside, I can’t imagine he enjoyed his trip back to the North West very much.

We’ve replaced – if that is the right word – Austin with Danny Ings and Sam Vokes and the pair were magnificent again on Saturday, the former grabbing all the headlines with his second half brace, the latter showing again what a great footballer’s footballer he’s developed into.

The opening goal was sublime. Dean Marney robbed Karl Henry in the middle of the parks and knocked the ball forward to Ings who played a neat one-two with Vokes before shrugging off Danny Simpson and firing past Rob Green.

The Clarets now site two ahead of Leicester City in second and five ahead of QPR in third although Redknapp’s side have their game in hand against Owen Coyle’s Wigan Athletic on Wednesday.

The law of averages says the run we are on SHOULD end at some point.

But with the level of belief running through all areas of the club at the moment, I wouldn’t expect that point to come too soon.
