BUOYANT Blackburn Rovers skipper Scott Dann says Saturday’s last-gasp derby draw at Blackpool felt as good as a win.

And after seeing his side end their two-match losing run in the most dramatic of fashions Dann urged Rovers to start putting a string of victories together – beginning at home to Middlesbrough this weekend.

The captain said: “I did think to myself is an equaliser ever going to come? So when it came as late as it did it definitely gives you that little kick and it feels more like a win.

“We’ll take that goal in the last couple of minutes and the positives into the Middlesbrough game.

“We have to take the game to them as we know we need to turn the performances we’re putting in into points.”

Rovers fell behind on Saturday in the 13th minute after Tom Ince converted a penalty awarded after Matt Kilgallon was adjudged to have brought Ricardo Fuller down in the box.

Jordan Rhodes, the Championship’s leading goalscorer, equalised eight minutes later with a spot-kick of his own.

However Blackpool went back in front before a frenetic first half was out courtesy of Dan Gosling.

That was the way it stayed until the 92nd minute when Steve Davies headed a Tom Cairney free kick into his own goal, ensuring a pulsating encounter ended 2-2.

Dann said: “I didn’t think it was a penalty against us. It was a bit unfortunate. Ricardo Fuller’s turned into Matt and got hold of him.

“We went a goal behind but I think that spurred us on. We got back into the game and when we got our goal we were on top.

“But they scored a goal against the run of play and we were back to square one.

“But we came out in the second half and showed a lot of spirit and in the end we got what we deserved.

“I think it will be a big boost. It could have ended up 2-1 and then it’s another bad day at the office regardless of the way we’ve played.

“Getting a late goal like that is always a big help and it will push us on for the Middlesbrough game next week.”

The late equaliser arrived just seven minutes after Rovers substitute DJ Campbell and Seasiders defender Jack Robinson were sent off for a fight that sparked a 21-man melee.

“To be honest I haven’t seen what happened again yet,” said Dann.

“I just went up there and tried to break it up and get the game started again to try and get us a goal, so I can’t comment on that.

“But we definitely deserved to get back into the game and on the whole we probably should have taken the three points.”

The draw leaves Rovers 12th, seven points behind the play-off places and as many above the drop spots.
