Mike Phelan has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate for the vacant manager’s role at Middlesbrough.
Nelson-born Phelan – Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant at Manchester United – is reportedly at the top of a shortlist which is also said to include ex-Blackburn Rovers manager Graeme Souness.
Rovers welcome Middlesbrough to Ewood Park on Saturday week.
