Ramsbottom United 7 Worksop Town 2

Two goals apiece from Thomas Brooks and Phil Dean and further goals from Jon Robinson, Dominic Smalley and Jordan Hulme put their Evo-Stik League Premier Division rivals to the sword.

The Rams made light work of a side a division higher as they raced to a 3-0 lead inside seven minutes.

After just three minutes, Jon Robinson out-paced his marker down the left before firing in a low cross which Tom Brooks neatly tucked away.

Two minutes, later Robinson was on the scoresheet this time converting a Dean cross.

The excitement had barely calmed down, when Smalley won the chase for a loose bal and calmly slotted the ball home.

Worksop did show some fight and on 21 minutes reduced the arrears when Leon Mettam converted at the far post after good work from Jack Muldoon.

But hopes of a Worksop fightback ended when, first they were reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute when defender Laurence Gaughan was sent off before Dean made it 4-1 in the 35th minute, scoring from the rebound after his initial penalty had been saved by Ben Gathercole.

With a man advantage, Rams looked for more goals in the second half and Owen Roberts was in the thick of the action.

He sent in a tantalising cross which just evaded the on-rushing Robinson, then he raced into the box before unleashing a shot that sailed just wide of the post.

Then on 52 minutes he played in a perfect through ball for Brooks, who calmly side-stepped the keeper to make it 5-1.

The one-way traffic continued and Grant Spencer’s free-kick came back off the post, before another cross from Roberts found Robinson, but his header went straight to the keeper.

Brooks was then denied his hat-trick by the width of a post.

But on 74 minutes, it was 6-1 when Smalley was brought down in the area and Dean made no mistake from the spot. Muldoon pulled on back with a penalty but, not to be outdone, the Rams scored again in injury time through Hulme after Tommy Toth’s effort was parried.
