Emotions ran high on the touchline in last night's UEFA Cup clash as Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes became involved in a heated exchange with Nancy manager Pablo Correa.

The Uruguayan then refused to shake Hughes' hand at the final whistle.

"I told him to sit down and be quiet on a number of occasions because he wasn't happy with me trying to give instructions to my team," said the Rovers chief.

"I might have used a bit of industrial language but he shouldn't get too precious about that."

Now Hughes is hoping last night's result will act as a launchpad for success in the Premier League, where Rovers have lost six of their last eight games to leave them just two points and one place above the bottom three.

"We hope this is a springboard for us," said the Rovers boss.

"We feel in recent weeks that certain things have gone against us.

"Tonight things have gone for us so maybe it's a change of fortune.

"We are proud of what we have done in the UEFA Cup this season.

"To top the group is a good achievement, it's something that we aspired to at the beginning of the season, and we've done that and accomplished it.

"We can now put this on the backburner and concentrate on the Premier League."
