BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche is hopeful the injury that forced Dean Marney off in midweek will not keep the midfielder out of Saturday’s home game against Charlton.

Marney was substituted before half time in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the League Cup, with Brian Stock impressing in his place.

But Dyche believes Marney’s injury may not be too serious.

“He had a knock next to his shinbone,” said the Clarets boss.

“We hope it’s something and nothing.”

Danny Ings scored twice against Forest to take his tally to nine for the season, and Dyche thinks taking some of the pressure off the striker has helped Ings to produce his best form.

“He puts a lot of demand on himself and I was trying to lighten that demand and get him back to playing with that freedom and enjoyment that young men should,” Dyche said.

“He’s becoming a man the way he’s playing, but at his age you shouldn’t have any baggage around expectation and people’s thoughts, you should just be out there playing.

“I’ve told him he won’t get that kind of pressure from us. Tactical pressure and demand, yes, but not the freedom to play.

“I make it clear to all the players, but more so the younger players.

“I want them to go and play and enjoy their football, as long as they're doing their bit for the team tactically then we allow you that freedom to explore what it is to be a footballer.”

David Jones, who missed the midweek win over Nottingham Forest remains a doubt for Saturday’s clash which could see the finishing central midfield pair from Tuesday night – David Edgar and Brian Stock – starting against Charlton.

The Clarets are already without long-term injury victim Ross Wallace for Saturday’s visit of the Addicks.

Keith Treacy also played in midweek and he will battle with Stoke City loanee Michael Kightly for a starting spot in midfield.
