In a week when Stanley chairman Peter Marsden pleaded for more fans through the turnstiles to balance the books the one thing he needed to help with his quest was a home win.

Alas it was not to be and despite Rochdale being down to 10 men for half of the match the two goals conceded early on were too much of a hill to climb for Stanley.

Our small number of dedicated fans has become accustomed to pleas for help from the Stanley board over the years and despite harsh economic times we have always seen a great response from the terraces. The work the club has done in connecting to local schools and community organisations has been great over the past couple of years but we need much more if we are to survive at this level.

Perhaps the best chance we have of guaranteeing survival would be a good FA cup run, it’s been a while since we plundered the coffers of the cup and if we are still near the bottom of the league a tie away against one of the big four Premier League clubs would surely have the double whammy of TV cash as well. It’s not been all bad this week one of the high points was Kayode Odejayi getting his first Stanley goal. He is an impressive player as is Lee Naylor who will be superb once he reaches full match fitness.

We are most definitely due a win – I just wish it would hurry up.
