Despite the fact that Bacup Borough had been out of action for one month, they still maintained their unbeaten league form in difficult overhead conditions.

During the first 45 minutes the visitors had three excellent chances to take the lead.

Martin Peters laid the ball back to Stuart Shepherd, who struck the ball and it whistled just over the crossbar, then Lee Oldham rose to head the ball against the Formby crossbar following a Simon Myrescough corne.

At the opposite end Formby tested the Bacup keeper Billy Carrington, On the stroke of half time some neat interchanging passes between Matthew Cross, Oldham and Ian Barker was just short of the finishing touch when Barker's shot was just over the bar.

At the break manager Brent Peters brought on Carl Rezia for the injured Martin Peters and it was Rezia's vision which broke the deadlock and put Bacup ahead.

On 48 minutes he played an intelligent pass to Barker, who produced a clinical left foot strike.

Bacup went on to control the game putting the home side under constant pressure, but it was Formby that got the equaliser through an howler of a mistake from Bacup midfield player Dean Repullo.

Under no pressure and positioned midway between the Bacup 18-yard line and the touch line, he headed the ball back towards his goal and down into the path of an advancing forward who then slipped the ball into his team mate and he just tapped the ball into the net.

Formby now found more belief and had Bacup on the back foot for a short period.

Five minutes after the equaliser the home side forced a corner, which was knocked to the far post. With Dean Repullo still shocked from his initial mistake, he failed to compete for the ball and gifted the Formby player a simple header.

Bacup went on an all out attack to get back into the game and Formby were struggling to get near their opponents.

Bacup got the equaliser when Matthew Cross placed a curling free kick into the corner of the net.

Bacup were now in search for the winner but the visitors had to settle for a share of the spoils.
