BURNLEY'S plan to attract fresh investment to Turf Moor has already born fruit with the appointment of a new man on to the Clarets' board.

Lifelong Clarets supporter Brendan Flood, a Manchester-based shopping centre owner and developer, has been voted onto the club's board of directors.

His appointment comes just two weeks after Burnley's annual general meeting, where shareholders voted to remove the restriction on the number of directors.

Previously, the maximum allowed on the board stood at nine and Burnley had already met that figure.

Rossendale-born Mr Flood, who has a background in banking, launched his own company, Modus Properties, in 1991 and rapid expansion has turned a highly successful company into a market leader in urban regeneration.

"I am a lifelong Burnley fan, all my family are Burnley fans and all my mates are Burnley fans," said Mr Flood.

"So this is like living the dream. It is an exciting time and the task I face now is fitting enough space in my agenda to enjoy the role."

Mr Flood, 45, is impressed with the team spirit among Steve Cotterill's side as they sit sixth in the Championship.

And now he wants to make a significant contribution off the field to try and help the club fulfil its potential.

He added: "I have known two of the directors for five years and the board have a fairly sound business plan for the football club.

"My heart is always in the football side of Burnley and my aim is to maintain that enjoyment.

"But at the same time, I think I can bring some extra dynamism to the future of the club.

"In a way, I think the club just needs re-energising. There are a lot of people out there who are lifelong fans, like me, and there are ways of getting them to participate for the betterment of the club.

"Steve Cotterill is a very ambitious and talented manager and we have a great team spirit here. I see a real potential to succeed within the club and I want to be a part of that.

"I have made an initial financial commitment to buy shares in the club and in the future I am looking to participate in helping the club when the opportunity arises.

"Where we have the right team on the pitch, we can better ourselves with the financial support of those off it."

At the recent AGM, Clarets chairman Barry Kilby insisted the removal of the ceiling on director numbers could allow for more money being pumped into the club.

Mr Kilby said: "We are delighted Brendan has joined the board and his business acumen will be of great use to us.

"Obviously he is a very successful businessman, but equally as important he is a very supportive fan and his appointment can only be good for the club as a whole."

Chief executive Dave Edmundson, added: "Hopefully, Brendan's input will be invaluable as we look to take the club forward and meet our challenges head-on."
