DANNY Ings put Burnley in the driving seat in this opening day derby with Bolton Wanderers, but the Clarets were pegged back by Darren Pratley's drive before the break.
Ings scored five in four pre-season friendlies and has had no problem in transferring that summer form into the league.
Bursting onto a knockdown, the striker comfortably outpaced defender David Wheater from the edge of the box, and tucked his shot across a helpless Adam Bogdan and into the far left corner in the 26th minute.
Burnley had survived early penalty appeals from Bolton, in this Football League 125th anniversary fixture, with Pratley going down easily in the box under Kevin Long's challenge.
With an array of short-sharp passing Burnley deserved their lead when it came.
They will be disappointed with the goal they conceded, as Pratley found himself unmarked in receiving ex-Claret Chris Eagles' pass, and drilled right-footed beyond Tom Heaton.
