HUNDREDS of children from across the county competed in the Rose Grove Football Club tournament, staged at Habergam playing fields.
The fields on the site of Hameldon College are under threat as Lancashire County Council is considering selling off the land for development.
Parents, children and ward councillors are behind a campaign to save the pitches, and campaigner Zoe Pennington said: “The response to the tournament was incredible, with 30 teams from all over the North-West taking part.
“Habergam Fields plays a huge part in the community, with over 200 children training at Habergam every week and an event like this keeps the cause in the public spotlight.”
More than 1,000 people have signed a petition in support of keeping the fields on Kiddrow Lane open.
“We need to keep these fields open for the children and safeguard them for future generations,” said Zoe.
Readstone Yellow lifted the Under-12 Cup while Barnoldswick Town Blue claimed the Under-13 Cup.
Zoe, who is also secretary of Rose Grove Football Club, added: “This was the second year we’ve had the tournament, but this time we had a lot more teams taking part and, hopefully, all the publicity will help give the campaign another giant boost.
“I‘d like to say thank-you to the teams, supporters, and organisers who helped make it such a special event.”
