THREE members of Pioneer 79 Swimming Club are currently competing in the National Age Group Championships in Sheffield.

The Championships, held at Ponds Forge last weekend and next weekend, are the culmination to the season where swimmers have been busy trying to achieve the National Qualifying Times.

A total of 28 Pioneers swimmers took part in the Lancashire County Swimming Championships with 18 of them qualifying for the Regional Youth Championships held in May.

And it was Natasha Rogan, Niamh Robinson and Matthew Sharpe who gained 12 NQTs between them Natasha Rogan is competing in the100m and 200m butterfly, 200m IM and 100m Backstroke Niamh Robinson will contest the 100m and 200m breaststroke, 100m and 200m backstroke, 200m and 400m IM and 100m butterfly.

And Matthew Sharpe qualified in the 100m breaststroke Tom Gilroy, Ewan McKavett, Eleanor Collin and Joseph Murray all narrowly missed out on reaching the Nationals.

Head Coach, Mike Wilson said: “The results during the last few weeks have shown the hard work all the swimmers at Pioneer 79 Swimming Club have put in over the whole season. “The times and performances from everyone have been fantastic and makes myself and all the coaches very proud to see the swimmers get the results they deserve.

“The club is continuing to get stronger year on year, and next season we look to continue to build.”
