CHARLIE Dewhurst once again highlighted his immense potential as he hit a magnificent century to lead Lancashire U13s to a glorious win over Lincolnshire in the glorious sunshine at Haslingden’s Bentgate.
The Clitheroe Cobra, who skippers the Red Rose team and has also appeared in Clitheroe’s first team in the Ribblesdale League this season, made a hugely impressive 108 not out as Lancashire piled on the runs in the friendly clash.
Dewhurst faced just 100 balls and hit 17 fours in his innings – and he wasn’t the only young Lancashire batsman to impress on a quality track.
Opening batsman George Lavelle shone as he made 58 from 97 balls and he shared a 97-run stand for the second wicket with Dewhurst, while Lewis Pearson – the son of East Lancashire legend David Pearson – once again looked good in the Red Rose shirt as he hit a breezy 23 before being run out on the final ball of the innings.
Brad Fielding made a run-a-ball 18 and their combined efforts helped Lancashire to post a big total of 238-4 from their 45 overs with Lincolnshire’s Deklan Binnington the best bowler on the day as he claimed three wickets.
Joseph Halstead struck early in the Lincolnshire reply as he had the dangerous Harry Cearnes caught by Pearson and Aidan Lockwood was run out first ball as the visitors slumped to 18-2.
Their day got worse when opener Kory Brown went for 12 to leave the score 18-3 and when Muhammad Ahmad removed Lincolnshire skipper Nick Keast for two it was 25-4.
There was no way back for Lincolnshire after that start and with Ahmed bowling brilliantly Lancashire strolled towards victory.
Ahmad claimed the remarkable figures of 7-8 from 4.4 overs as Lincolshire were 59 all out in just 20.4 overs.
Sam Oldham was another boy in form as Lancashire U14s enjoyed a big win over Cheshire at Middleton CC.
He claimed three wickets and Connor De’ath also picked up a trio of victims as Cheshire were bowled out for 151 and Oldham then stepped up to the plate with the bat after Lancashire suffered a slight batting wobble.
He made 58 not out to lead the Red Rose to a five-wicket win.
Lancashire U17s were also victorious as they beat Durham in a tight game which was held at Seaton Carew.
Daniel Lamb top scored with 55 as Lancashire were all out for 167 but that total seemed short as Durham appeared to be easing their way to victory as they eased to 143-6 with plenty of overs to spare.
But Mike Finan claimed four wickets to add to three for Matthew Parkinson and Durham were bowled out eight runs short.
