KEVIN Gallacher will call on all his experiences as a former Premier League and international footballer as he prepares to embark on a new venture.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers and Scotland striker has launched his own soccer school where boys and girls will get first hand knowledge from a player who played at the highest level.

G8 Soccer School will be holding two coaching courses next month – August 12-16 for eight to 10-year-olds and August 19-23 for 11 to 13-year-olds.

Gallacher says it is an opportunity to put something back in to the community and he is looking to establish G8 Soccer School.

“I always wanted to go in to coaching when I finished playing but instead went straight in to the media,” said Gallacher who also played for Dundee United, Coventry City and Newcastle United.

“So this is a very exciting new chapter in my life and I am really looking forward to working with the kids.

“I’ve lived in the area for the past 20 years so this gives me the chance to put something back in to the community.”

Gallacher, who is an UEFA B licence coach, hopes his knowledge will give him an upperhand in what is now a very competitive market.

“I’ve given this a lot of thought because I know there is a lot of good competition out there,” he added.

“But I have taken and listened to a lot of advice and, of course, I have by own experiences in the game that I can pass on to children who attend the soccer schools.

“I can pass on what I have learnt but the most important thing will be not to over complicate things and make sure it is enjoyable because football at this age should all be about fun.”

Each age group will contain no more than 30 youngsters and Gallacher will be assisted by two qualified coaches and is looking to recruit a female coach to his team.

The soccer school will be held behind Salesbury Memorial Hall and registration is from 9.15-30am and will run until 3.30pm each day.
