DANNY Ings scored his fourth goal in three pre-season games to lead the way in a 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.
The striker's left-foot volley from 12 yards broke the deadlock seven minutes before half-time, after Tranmere tested their resistance with a bright start.
Dean Marney doubled the Clarets' lead with an unstoppable 25-yard strike before the hour and Burnley only looked like building on that advantage.
Substitute Sam Vokes went close soon after his introduction.
But Tranmere pulled a goal back through substitute James Rowe in the last minute, and it needed a good save from Tom Heaton, who had his busiest game, to prevent Joe Thompson from grabbing a late equaliser.
