SCOTLAND youth international Kal Naismith is one of four triailists set to be offered permanent deals at Accrington Stanley, with James Beattie describing him as a ‘special player’.

Naismith impressed against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, scoring Stanley’s goal, and Beattie was full of praise for the 21-year-old after.

He featured alongside former Manchester United striker Danny Webber, ex-Stanley loanee Piero Mingoia, and midfielder Josh Windass, who are also looking to earn contracts at the Store First Stadium.

After the game Beattie confirmed he had asked the four to stay and the club were ‘working on things to try and make that more permanent’.

Naismith featured for Scotland at under-16 and under-17 levels and has made 24 appearances for Rangers.

“I think there’s a very talented footballer in Kal,” said Beattie. “His confidence needs boosting and I think he thrives on responsibility.

“I said to him before the game I want to see you go out there and enjoy playing football because you’re a good player, I want to see you smiling and as you’ve seen he is a totally different player, he’s a special player.”

Beattie was impressed by his side’s performance in the 1-1 draw.

“We played some great stuff, I’m really pleased,” he said. “The application of the players I don’t think will ever be in question, we’re just getting them to express themselves, it’s a great game and you’ve got to enjoy being in possession of the football.

“The other night (against Everton) we didn’t really have that much possession and when we the ball I want the lads to enjoy it as much as Everton did and give the opposition the run around, don’t feel sorry for them by giving them the ball back.

“There was some great attacking play, the back four were squeezing up, there are a few minor things to address, but they were better on set pieces, they are growing in confidence as a group and I’m very pleased.”
