COLNE fight star Shayne Singleton says he is now full focused on the defence of his English light-welterweight title after he came through an excellent workout on his return to the ring on Saturday night.
Singleton fought on a bill at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium to keep in shape ahead of his big battle with Huddersfield’s Tyrone Nurse and beat the gritty Kevin McCauley on points over six tough rounds.
Brighton’s McCauley, who is two weight divisions above Singleton, took the fight at short notice and made the local star – the first man from the town of Colne to claim a professional belt – work hard.
Accrington’s Luke Blackledge was set to claim the Central Area seuper-middleweight title as he dominated the first two rounds against Alastair Warren.
But the referee stopped the fight at the end of the second round due to an accidental clash of heads.
And the rules dictate that four rounds must be completed before a positive result can be declared meaning the fight was a technical draw.
Darwen’s Stevie Taylor made it three wins from three as a proressional as he stopped Lee Kellett in the third of four rounds thanks after a dominant show, while there was a also a pro debut for Nelson newcomer Atif Mushtaq.
But the 25-year-old had to settle for a draw with the experienced Kristian Laight with all four rounds scored level.
