Burnley striker Andy Gray is turning to the oxygen tank in a bid to try and speed up his recovery from a serious foot injury.

The 10-goal marksman is expected to be out for eight weeks after breaking three metatarsals in his right foot in the final moments of last Tuesday's victory over Leeds United.

After an X-ray scan confirmed the worst, Clarets boss Steve Cotterill said he thought the foot injury would keep Gray sidelined until February.

But in an effort to try and speed up the healing process, Gray will be spending several days a week in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Burnley have used the oxygen tank method before in an attempt to trim down the recovery time of injured players.

Goalkeeper Danny Coyne and former Clarets winger Jean-Louis Valois have both spent time in a pressurised chamber that pumps the body with pure oxygen to promote quicker healing.

"Andy is in a (special) boot and we are going to get him in the oxygen chamber three times a week," said Cotterill.

"If that can bring it (the lay-off) down to six weeks, we would be delighted.

"At the moment though we are probably looking at February."

After Saturday's 1-1 Championship draw at Ipswich, Cotterill re-iterated that Gray's injury is a huge blow.

He added: "It's big blow for us in the dressing room.

"Andy's a great lad and a great team player.

"Not only has he scored his goals but he's done his fair share of the work in setting up for everybody else."
