BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche will continue to run the rule over trialist Scott Arfield with the Clarets chief admitting he is pleased with what he has seen from the former Huddersfield man so far.
Arfield played and scored for Burnley in their 3-0 win at Cork City and Monday night and also featured in the 1-0 defeat to Morecambe last week.
And Dyche admitted his interest in the 24-year-old who is available on a free transfer following his release from Huddersfield at the end of last season.
“Scott nicked a goal and has fitted in well with the group,” said Dyche of the Scottish midfielder’s performance in the Cork game.
“He made some good forceful runs out of midfield and he has fitted in with the group well. There are a lot of things piecing together.”
The Burnley boss added that he was pleased with the contribution of former Blackburn Rovers loanee David Jones, who it is believed will sign for Burnley at the start of next month.
“David is with us for a bit and he is enjoying it. He has looked fit and well, so that looks an interesting one, as with Scott.
“We will see how they build because we want good people doing a job and there were good signs.”
Both Jones and Arfield are likely to feature against Carlisle United in Burnley’s next friendly on Saturday while Charlie Austin is again expected to feature having made his first appearance since his failed move to Hull City against Cork.
“It was nice to see Charlie,” Dyche added. “The fans were great with him and as you can see by his performances he is enjoying himself and he is fine.”
And although Dyche was pleased with the result in Ireland and the manner of performance he stressed that the pre-season games were more about fitness than finesse.
“The results are nice, but it is mainly about people coming through unscathed and fit and getting back their real match sharpness,” said the Burnley boss.
“We wanted that winning mentality and it was great to send them home on that performance.
“There were a number of good performances. As a manager I am looking at the basics; the shape of the team and how they work for each other and I thought that was very evident tonight, no matter what changes we made.”
Dyche added that defender Ben Mee was taken off as a precaution with a slight knee injury and joins Junior Stanislas (thigh) and Dean Marney (knee) in carrying minor knocks.
