CHORLEY suffered a heartbreaking five run defeat in Shropshire as they bowed out of the ECB National Knockout competition at the quarter-final stage.
Andy Holdsworth’s men, seemed certain to upset the odds and stun the favourites and continue their journey along the road to Durham's Riverside.
Chorley restricted their hosts to 168-8 with Kieran McCullagh impressing with two wickets.
And after Andrew Griffiths (43) and David Fisher put on 63 for the first wicket it seemed they were well on their way.
They needed 19 from five overs but Fisher was run out for 54 and Ian Dickinson went for 36 and when Will Moulton, who had earlier claimed two wickets, departed cheaply and the pressure was on.
Skipper Andy Holdsworth and professional Guarav Dhar needed 11 from the final over and then six of the last ball but just missed out.
