STAGED by the East Lancashire Federation of Crown Green Bowls, the second round of the 2013 Junior and Youth Championships, attracted another bumper entry.
East Lancashire fielded two teams – a youth team and a junior squad – with the competition held in front of a good crowd at East Lancashire Bowling Club.
And it proved to be a real battle of the Roses, with rivals from Lancashire and Yorkshire going head to head.
“It was a superb competition, the standard of the bowling talent was outstanding,” said spokesman Jim Cunningham.
“There’s some really good bowlers coming through on the circuit at the moment and that’s great to see.
“We are always trying to encourage youngsters to get involved with crown green bowls because it is a great sport.”
East Lancs Youth Team landed second place, just edged out by a powerful Leeds A team.
The organisers would like to thanks the sponsors, The Pack at Belthorn, for their kind support.
