CHARLIE Austin says there are no guarantees he will remain a Claret following the collapse of his Premier League move to Hull City.

But the club’s player of the year insists it will not stop him from preparing for the season with Burnley.

Austin admitted he had endured a tough time after the Tigers pulled out of a £4.5million move at the 11th hour last Monday following a medical.

Hull’s checks had highlighted an underlying knee problem and the Tigers felt it too big a risk to commit to the deal.

But the 24-year-old still dreams of top flight football, and stressed that remains his target.

“I thought I was going to the Premier League and that's where I wanted to be.

“Obviously that’s fallen through so hopefully I’ll get the chance, whether it be with Burnley or someone else,” said Austin.

“I’m a professional athlete and I’ve got to try to get over the disappointment of what happened.

“I’ve got a job to do here. I’ve got to work hard and get myself right for the season. I want to get onto the pitch and play as many pre-season games and train as many days as I can.”

Speaking for the first time after his deal’s dramatic collapse he told the club’s official website how it had affected him.

“I was disappointed at the move not going through. Obviously I wanted to play in the Premier League but I’m back here now at Burnley and I’ve got work to do,” he said.

“When I was on my way back from Hull I spoke to the gaffer and said I wanted to train on Tuesday and play (against Morecambe).

“He told me not to and to go home and spend time with my family.

“I went back and to be honest the first day was hard. I tried to be on my own and go away for half an hour away from everybody, and then I’d need to be around people.

“It was a surreal feeling and one that I can’t explain.

“I realised that I’m a professional footballer and I need a pre-season behind me and I need to get fit and I’ve not left Burnley Football Club yet.

“So I’ve come back and the manager, coaching staff and all the lads have been very welcoming.

“I need to get myself fit and prepare for the new season.”

And Austin, who top-scored with 28 goals last season, has targeted an even bigger return to put his failed move behind him.

“I’ll try to score 30 goals next year,” he said.

Austin is set to figure in tonight’s friendly at Cork City, at the end of the club’s pre-season training camp in southern Ireland.
