BRIAN Collinge and Jonny Clark are the first to book their places in the semi finals of the Golden Cue competition.
Collinge of Briercliffe is through to the last four on the small table after a narrow victory over Steve Almond of Clitheroe RBL.
Playing with a +5 handicap, Collinge held his nerve to beat Almond, playing with a +10 handicap, to win 3-2.
Padiham Snooker Club’s Clark was up against Dan Paton of Rolls Royce in their quarter final clash on the large table.
And in another tight game, Clark, a +5 handicap player, ran out 3-1 victor over Paton playing off scratch.
The second round of quarter final matches take place this evening at Ighten Leigh when D Emery takes on L Bannister in an all-Colne Snooker Club for a place in the semi final of the large table competition.
On the small table, G Brelsford of Loughclough was scheduled to play S Shepherd of Lamb Club last night.
The remainder of the quarter finals take place this month. On the small table, J Kershaw of Lamb Club plays St Andrews’ D Cregg on July 15 with P Averill of St Andrews taking on R Nelson of Loughclough on July 22.
On the large table, the quarter finals ties to be concluded see A Dibb of ILSC take on M Taylor of Colne SC on July 16 with D Howe of Beaconsfield Con playing B Hindle of BSC on July 23, all at Ighten Leigh.
