HULL City manager Steve Bruce has confirmed this morning that Burnley striker Charlie Austin will not be joining the Premier League new boys.
Both clubs had agreed a fee of £4.5million over the weekend, which would have made Austin Hull's second more expensive signing behind Jimmy Bullard.
But Bruce said the striker, who was all set to seal a move to the KC Stadium, encountered a medical problem late last night and the deal is now off.
The Hull boss said: “It looks like a bit of a problem with his medical. It's an awful situation we find ourselves in. It's a blow for him and for us.”
The striker had travelled to Humberside for talks with Bruce before the deal hit a late stumbling block.
A Burnley club statement said: “Burnley striker Charlie Austin will not be joining Hull City after unforeseen complications halted a proposed move to the KC Stadium.
“Austin, 24, remains a Burnley player and the club will make no further comment at his time.”
The Clarets visit Morecambe in their opening pre-season friendly tonight (7.45pm) although Austin is not expected to be involved.
