BURNLEY and Pendle Rugby League Football Club gained ample revenge for their recent defeat to close neighbours West Craven Warriors, grabbing a hard-fought 30-14 win.
After a tense start with defences on top, Reds’ centre Ryan Bradley powered over for the opening try, with 16-year-old Marcus Farnworth landing the conversion.
Burnley captain Matt Crowley then increased their lead, his quick feet leaving the Warriors defence floundering to race away and score under the posts.
With the visitors now two scores down, they redoubled their efforts and forced their way back into the contest with a well worked try, to reduce the arrears to 12-4 at half-time.
Bradley crashed over for his second try early in the second half before winger Craig Wiseman stepped in to dummy half and burrowed his way over to stretch their lead to 24-4.
But West Craven reduced the arrears with an impressive back-line move to score out wide.
However, Burnley deservedly wrapped it up with 10 minutes left. spiralling kick was spilled by the hard-pressed Warriors full-back under huge pressure from the Reds kick chase.
The loose ball was skilfully picked up by Sonny Waddington who placed the ball over the line to complete the home sides scoring.
Teenager Farnworth completed a faultless kicking display, converting to see Burnley claim victory by a comfortable 16 point winning margin.
Burnley and Pendle are in home action on Saturday, July 6, when they host Warrington Bank Quay Bulls.
Kick-off 2.30pm at the Prairie Playing Fields, Burnley. Further info contact Bob Lennard, 07772 600729.
