Rishton bowler Michael Burns was in top form in winning the Ted Tomlinson singles bowling competition held on Sunday at the Church Meadow home of Ribblesdale Wanderers Cricket and Bowling club.
In blustery and at times showery conditions in Clitheroe, Burns showed his superior class throughout the day and bowling consistently well thoroughly deserved to lift the trophy after an impressive show in the final.
After progressing comfortably through the early rounds he met local veteran Gordon Dixon, who himself had performed well, in the semi-final but Burns, after an excellent start, ran out a clear winner at 21-12.
The other semi-final saw Vincent O’Donnell from Rushton Street overcome previous winner Roy Campbell of Burnley Road Bowling Club by a comprehensive score of 21-8.
The final started evenly but then Burns found top form and playing some excellent bowls ran out a worthy winner at 21-9.
The annual competition, held in memory of past member Ted Tomlinson, was wonderfully supported by the Tomlinsons with 11 members of the family being in attendance.
The trophies and prizes were presented by Ted's brother and sister Gordon and Edwina and thanks were extended to the family for their continued support.
Thanks were also expressed to Geof Parkinson, who did an excellent job in his role of competition organiser, and to the members of Ribblesdale Wanderers who provided refreshments, scorers and markers throughout the day.
