WENSLEY Fold girls stole the show in front of a big crowd in the final of the Blackburn with Darwen girls cricket competition.
Staged at Darwen Cricket Club, Wensley Fold were crowned champions after defeating St James in a thrilling final.
It means Wensley Fold girls will represent the borough at the LCB County cricket finals at Unsworth Cricket Club today.
Eight schools took part in the Year 4/5 tournament. Wensley Fold, Audley, Avondale, St Mary and St Joseph’s in Group One - with St Thomas’ St James’, Lower Darwen, St Cuthbert’s and St James’, Blackburn, in the second group.
Audley defeated St Cuthbert’s to take third place in another tense tie.
Andrew Mercer, Schools organiser for Blackburn with Darwen, said: “It was a wonderful event, played in glorious sunshine, and everybody really enjoyed the occasion.
“I’d like to thank Darwen CC for allowing us to use their facilities, and to Jen Laycock from Lancashire CC who helped umpire and encourage many of the girls to attend cricket sessions at Birch Hall.”
